First Historical Guided Walking Tours Of Spike Island Take Place
The first guided walking tours for the public took place yesterday with the two boat departures full to capacity at 2pm and 4pm. The visitors were a broad mix from the locality but also from the rest of Ireland, the UK, Germany, Asia and elsewhere. The age profiles ranged from 6 weeks old to mid 70s. The rain stayed off and everybody appeared to have a fabulous time. Joining the tour was Lol Willmott who was born on the Island, got her first kiss there and evetually married in the little chapel on the northern shore that is sadly today in disrepair. Cork City participants were fascinated by the story of Little Nellie of Holy God and everybody was astonished at the views across the harbour of Cobh.
